A Story About The B Werd and a Sequin Rose Appliqué Top #AsSeenOnMe
This outfit has quite the story behind it, actually two stories. But, we only have time for one story. I'll save the other story for another time for when the conditions are right.
It all started over "The B Werd"..... brunch...
Baddie Brunch, that is. I had never heard of Baddie Brunch before until one day I was scrolling through my Instagram feed and one of my favorites, @greeneyesgoldsoul, popped up announcing that she would be speaking at the event. The groupie in me started to come out and I got excited. Aside from her Instagram handle, you may know her as Courtney Brand, the mind behind the business and branding blog called The B Werd. Yes, she covers business and branding. But, she also throws a bit of her own personal experiences in the form of a #CoffeeTalk series, interviews inspiring boss babes, and even tells you about Weekend Deals from some of your favorite retail stores. She is #goals. Before I launched my blog, The B Werd was one of those blogs that I enjoyed during my incubation period. A period in time where the idea was very fragile, like a young child, and it needs to be nurtured by positivity, uplifted, and protected. So to see that she would be speaking at an event and it was brunch!?!? Oh yeah, 'Issa' themed brunch too...sequins! Not only do I have a thing with breakfast spreads, but...
I am THEE QUEEN 👑 of shiny and over the top!!
Soooo, you know I felt like it was a call meant for me *hair flip*. One of those moments where it seems like the stars align, well....my head was so busy in the stars that I didn't see the part about buying a ticket and IMMEDIATELY STARTED PLANNING MY OUTFIT. 😂
Fast forward about a week and some days? Point is, some time passed before I revisited the website to double check the information. Two weeks away from the event and I find out that tickets were SOLD OUT. 💀 My heart sank. Picture me sitting at my desk, literally shaking my head wondering how the hell I missed it. But, there was a light at the end of the tunnel. A waiting list. I must have sent that email so quick that even Usain Bolt would blink at the speed. 🏃🏾
Key Learning: Don't get so wrapped up into the weeds that you forget about the forest. Basically, the whole picture. If there's something you want to do, waste no time in going for it. And, double check earlier than later.
Just don't do it to yourself. The regret took no time to sink in, but quickly found its way out as decided to have some faith that something may come up.
⚠️ Spoiler Alert⚠️ Nope. Negatory. Brunch didn't happen. Nor did my grand entrance.
But, with the power of technology, I was able to be there through the uploads of other people on social media. I didn't get what I thought would be my fix, but I got something else...peace.
If it's one thing that I know for sure, it's that our experiences build us up...prime you for the blessings, challenges, and opportunities soon to come. When I look back on moments of my life, everything adds up. Yet, when you're presently deep into the situation, the equation seems so hard to figure out that it would even baffle Einstein himself. That experience was apparently what I needed at the time, leaning into this is why #FOMO didn't get the best of me.
It's been about a month now and the experience is still yielding some beneficial fruit. Yup, you guessed it...this outfit post.
I took out a piece or two from the original outfit I planned to wear to Baddie Brunch and mixed it up a bit to give it more of an edgy look. The shoes may look intimidating, but they're lighter than they look despite having so many rhinestones on them. The meshnet top, I immediately fell in love with since the roses were the perfect tone of red that I was aiming for to match my strappy heels.
It's pretty cool to think, "Hey, I made those." The strappy heels look like an actual luxury designer shoe. The shoes and the top were my key (major 🔑 ) pieces. Knowing that they both pop, I didn't want to add anything else to mix to a point where you wouldn't know where to divide your attention. It's one thing I really appreciate about this outfit, the meshnet top and the luxury shoe work in tandem with each other. Not against.
Of course you have the supporting role pieces. Wavy black shorts a friend gave to me, a simple black bra from Victoria's Secret, and accessories from one of my favorite places to get lost in (SWTrading is like a black hole for jewelry). What you wear under it can be pretty dynamic. You can opt for a dress, a harness bra, pants...so many possibilities.
Same goes with opportunities that come your way, different possibilities based on how you approach them. Although, Baddie Brunch didn't go the way I envisioned, I'm still pretty content with what resulted from it. If the story shifts, you'll be the first to know. In the meantime, be sure to give The B Werd a visit. And you can find out more about Baddie Brunch here.
